Horizon Out Door Circuit Breaker...
38KV OUTDOOR CIRCUIT BREAKER

Details: Horizon is one of a family of products featuring the award winning magnetic actuator technology. The design of Horizon combines the unparalleled performance of vacuum interrupters with the most advanced operating mechanism available on the market today. Horizon is compact, simple to install and is designed to provide a lifetime of trouble-free operation.
Horizon combines the high reliability of vacuum interruption with the controlled environment and high dielectric strength of SF6, in a compact, maintenance-free unit. Electrical life is well in excess of ANSI requirements. The patented magnetic actuator, first used in the award-winning GVR Recloser, provides consistent performance and a dramatic reduction in the number of parts. Materials and finishes have been carefully chosen for reliability – from silicone bushings, tested for tracking and erosion to IEC 1109, in salt, fog and other environments, to the neodymium iron boron permanent magnets used in the mechanism.
Application
Horizon is designed for 38kV outdoor ground mounted application where it can be used with other products from FKI Switchgear and Transformers to provide compact and cost effective substations. Alternatively, Horizon can be used to breathe new life into existing substations by replacing old obsolete oil or SF6 equipment – equipment that is unlikely to conform to the latest operational and safety standards!
Horizon is suitable for high-speed auto-reclosing with minimum dead times of 0.3 seconds.
Key Features
- Patented, low energy, magnetic actuator mechanism
- Vacuum interruption in an SF6-filled, controlled environment (1.3bar absolute)

ATTENTION TO ENGINEERING DETAIL
Main Features
- The bushings consist of a conductor with over moulded EPDM core giving a gas tight seal and impact resistance. Removable self-cleaning, hydrophobic silicone sheds offer very high pollution resistance with no maintenance.
- Current Transformers are located within the bushing design, external to the gas enclosure, to allow for easy changing/addition.
- Lightweight aluminium housing, secured by stainless steel bolts and incorporating rubber ‘O’ ring seals.
- Pressure-relief disc, to comply with IEC 60298 Appendix AA, offers the highest levels of safety.
- Mechanical ON/OFF position indication visible through clear viewing window from ground level.
- Manual trip and lockout handle, operated from control cubicle.
- A single moulding supports the three phase vacuum interrupter assembly, magnetic actuator mechanism and one-piece drive beam.
- The magnetic actuator is based
on a solenoid plunger, held in the tripped or closed position by a permanent magnet.
- Bulkhead connection to control cubicle.
The Patented Magentic Actuator
The actuator coil is energised in one direction to ‘power close’ the Horizon and in the opposite direction to open it by de-latching the holding force. This is a unique feature of the magnetic actuator design used in the Horizon and ensures reliable tripping operation under all battery conditions and even for manual trip.
Tripping and Closing Supply
DC current for tripping and closing is taken directly from the substation batteries. There is no need for complicated electronics to provide the power supply, control unit or switching as in other designs.
Closing
The bi-stable design ensures that the plunger is held back in the open position (1) until the solenoid current rises above the level required to guarantee closure. Once the holding force is overcome (2), the circuit breaker closes positively (3), due to the stored energy in the solenoid and permanent magnets.
Tripping
The solenoid is energised in the reverse direction (4) to overcome the magnetic hold-on force and de-latch the actuator. Opening is then completed by the energy stored during the closing stroke in the contact pressure and opening springs and is completely independent of the power supply during electrical opening, and of the operator during manual opening.
